Beauty : Teeth Whitening

The other week I decided to undergo a new type of beauty maintenance – Teeth Whitening. As you might have realised, I tend to show my entire set of teeth when I smile. I also have green tea, dark choc and red wine obsessions which are all stained-teeth culprits so lately I found myself lamenting my lack of a pearly white smile quite often when looking at my smiling pictures.
I chose to try out the teeth whitening treatment available at ProDent Care, Dental Clinic and Centre for Dental Implantology in San Gwann with Dr Lara Cassar.

The name of the treatment applied is Philips ZOOM!. I wasn’t scared until I got there but then all of a sudden I started to get all these butterflies and started worrying that it would be painful etc. The staff at ProDent Care including Dr Lara were very helpful and welcoming. They made me feel at ease right away and walked me through the procedure and what it would entail.
One thing worth pointing out is that ideally a checkup is done prior to receiving this treatment. I didn’t know about this but she was kind enough to do it for me there and then. After receiving the all-clear, she started out by putting cheek retractors and cotton rolls to protect my gums and soft tissue from the whitening agent. Next, a protective layer was painted onto my gums.
A layer of the Philips ZOOM! whitening agent was then applied to the front of my teeth and the laser light was switched on. Each whitening session is 15 minutes long and four of them were applied.
Soo the big question is – was it painful ? Painful it isn’t, but the procedure isn’t the most comfortable, you do have a big thing in your mouth for about 60 minutes and also that’s 60 minutes of no talking which in my head is a big deal:). It all feels worth it when you see the result though – those pearly whites gleaming back at you in all their lovely glory.
For the first 48 hrs, your teeth are a bit porous so it is best to live on a white diet and avoid all food colourings and stain-potential food. There’s also increased sensitivity in your teeth for the first few days which might feel a little painful. Everything was back to normal after 2-3 days though and I have very sensitive teeth so there’s really nothing at all to be scared / worried about.
I love the result and I’m so scared of staining them again that I am compulsively washing and washing my teeth after every meal. I’ve also stopped green tea completely for now but I am back at the dark chocolate..that isn’t an option, it’s a necessary part of my life.
I highly recommend ProDent Care and thank all the staff and Dr Lara for inviting me to review this treatment at her clinic.
