On the Job

The rise of backpacks has been phenomenal over the last few years, overnight they’ve gone from exclusively used by school kids to being the coolest new kid on the block and hanging off the arms of every fashionista in town, of both genders.

There are different kinds of backpacks and I own a few of them but the ones I use the most are those that are designed to accommodate a laptop. I carry around laptops frequently, to and from work, when travelling, when going to meetings… I hate traditional laptop bags because the weight is distributed across one side of your body and there’s often not enough room for anything else which means you still need another bag. Kipling have an excellent Work section and one of the members is this excellent, beautiful, laptop backpack. It’s smart but not overly formal, stylish but not overly trends, roomy but not huge..basically, it really fits the bill all round.

I love backpacks for many reasons – it’s easy to fit lots of things, they’re kind on your back and neck and they make you feel free. A bag worn on your wrist or shoulder can sometimes make you feel restricted in your movements but a backpack takes you back to feeling like a kid when you could run to school, jump around and just move.

This outfit might not be considered a traditional work outfit but it really depends on the environment. Many offices have completely dispelled with the ‘wear formal wear to work’ attitude and in its place, the uniform has become decidedly more fashionable, stylish and creative. I probably wouldn’t actually wear this t-shirt to work because the slogan might end up becoming too much of a talking point or maybe I would wear it for that very reason. Anyway, it is most definitely a female future.
