Last Saturday, my favourite place in Malta – Pjazza San Gorg in Valletta was transformed into a wonderful array of lights, colours and beautiful clothes. As I mentioned in this outfit post, I form part of the Chamber of Fashion Malta and this was our first event. Ph above by Bernard Polidano
Throughout the afternoon, nerves were fraught and tension backstage was high. It’s never easy when you’re trying to coordinate the behind-the-scenes operations for three different designers but it gets even harder when not everyone speaks the same language. My Italian used to be awful but thankfully, it has improved a lot. However, I still can’t really call myself fluent, more so when I’m excited and even slurring my words when speaking in English.
Gianni Molaro was the first Italian designer and he chose to present different couture gowns from different collections presented throughout his extensive career. The bright colours, vivid prints and perfect led to a pretty picture on the catwalk. His bridal finale piece was beautiful and delicate. Luke Azzopardi was Malta’s and Gozo’s representative on the night. His Opium Addict Collection a blend of Victorian and oriental influences paired with stunning rich fabrics from Camilleri Paris Mode is my favourite of his yet. Carlo Alberto Terranova was another Italian designer showcased. The first time I attended a fashion show of Terranova’s was at AltaRoma June 2013. I remember Rome was buzzing in anticipation as this was his first solo show but of course, he was very renowned after his work for Sarli. His fashion house is called New Land Couture. He presented a black and white, tailored collection that pays full attention to the finer details that are so important in haute couture.
The night was presented by Liasa Marzoli from RAI (who also covered the event for their TV channels) and Jean Claude Micallef. Model hairstyles were handled by SCREEN and makeup looks by PUPA.
