I still
remember my first pair of eye glasses, the lenses were made of
glass which means it was extremely heavy and gave me migraines –
it took me about two years to figure this out, go figure. This
was about 12 years ago, around 2000, and that’s when I had
started doing some research and I had discovered Silhouette,
that year Silhouette was even selected as the glasses for astronauts of NASA.

I
read about their extreme lightness, about the comfort these specs
could provide..and dreamt of owning a pair…However, back then I
think the only options available were frameless and my mother thought they
wouldn’t last a week and therefore refused to buy them for me..To be honest, I’m
not sure if they were even available here back then and also, once my glass lenses
were replaced with plastic lenses, they weren’t all that bothersome any
more but they always remained slightly heavy. Fast forward to 2013 and I
had all but forgotten about this brand until O’hea Opticians invited me over to their launch event
last Monday.

My
memories are somewhat hazy but I don’t remember the options back then being
half as varied or half as stylish as they are now..WOW…really, really nice
and what’s more not just frameless ones but even full rimmed ones
that are still very lightweight.

You must be
thinking I must have now definetely bought a pair for myself – wrong
-I underwent corrective eye laser surgery last February so this came a
little too late for me. Although, they do also have sunglasses..hmmm….

The launch party was a lovely affair at Palazzo De Piro in Mdina, lots of yummy yummy food and good, interesting conversations.
Angelica, an Italian stylist was present to ensure people would get fitted with the pair that suits their face most and to train staff about Silhouette. |
They have sunglasses too! |
Three Maltese Silhouette Ambassadors were chosen for the launch party: Artist Liliana Fleri Soler, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Isabelle Saliba and Footballer Carmel Busuttil. Each person was given a pair of eye glasses suited to the individual’s personality and style.
