Whilst these designers might be ‘new’, there was nothing at all amateur in any of the collections presented, the quality of this event and the work presented surpassed all my expectations and left me feeling very excited indeed. Although each designer presented something unique and different, there were some trends that emerged to be common throughout most of the collections…patterns in all forms were the most featured trend – from floral to stripes to tribal to full out graphical prints, these outfits were anything but boring. Lace also featured as a popular trend whilst fur was very popular amongst the winter pieces.
Pieces were mainly structured with tailored trousers and knee-length dresses and skirts being predominant styles. Many designers included contrasting stitching and piping and a few also went for widely interesting collars.
Here’s the breakdown by designer:
Celeste – Martina Spiteri
The first outfit with flowers stuck on to a skirt, made for an interesting 3d effect whilst the orange frill at the bottom of a black dress was reminiscent of the late 90s. The standout piece was an amazing orange wrap dress with butterflies that first captured our attention as Vicky Miggiani modelled it down the catwalk, but as she turned around and showed us the amazing back design, I was spellbound – so simple but utterly beautiful.
Gremar – Marie Grech
A full length dress made entirely of lace captured my attention and I loved the few little roses stuck at the back, creating a whimsical effect.
A sequinned patterned top worn over a billowing tulle skirt with an obvious zip up at the back was another standout piece.
However, my favourite was a peplum designed with lace appliqué, two piece knee length suit with a tie gap at the back – elegance at its best. Feathers and sequins were also popular in this collection.

Bold print patterns, asymmetric cuts and vivid colours – these are the words that best describe this memorable collection. The prints were a celebration of our Maltese heritage with different Maltese features, including churches, windmills, our blue sky and cactus being used on different dresses.
Nadage Renee (Jewellery)
Beautiful designs, mainly using sterling silver and wood, featuring a net-like design (made from silver) that was a common element in all the pieces. One beautiful design was a thin wisp of silver fashioned into a necklace expanding to hold two big orange acorn like shapes. There were also some stunning wonderfully bombastic necklaces that would not look remiss on some it girl’s neck.
Eli Sha
Silent rebel
Wide bell sleeves, slouchy chinos, visible pocket linings, slouch skirts and dresses with wide pockets – these are some of the trademarks of this collection. Big pockets were combined with super soft fabrics, slouch turtlenecks were also popular – this is smart casual wear with a difference
Kelinza Couture
Although we had already had the opportunity to view the entire collection on the previous night, it was nice to be able to see some of her work once again, the attention to detail in many of the outfits continue to impress me.
Samantha Muscat
Black and white was the theme here with structured geometric patterns and pvc being key trends. Both the current biker and sporty trends seemed to be an influence in this collection. A reptile patterned sporty dress was one of my favourites but the absolute winner was a backless body suit paired with a sheer skirt that had a slit the whole length of the front
Handbags by Dali
Floral weekend bags with a big bow and tie-dyed handles, little fur like trimmings on cute morning bags, jewelled handles – truly beautiful creations. A red polka oversised bag with lace appliqué made for the cutest hold all ever seen.
UCA
Lots of shimmer, standout collars and accents of transparent material were some of the features in this spectacular collections. One outfit had a transparent section at the back of the knees which made the audience gasp as the model turned around. My favourites were a tight dress balanced out by wide sleeves and a tied-dyed chiffon dress consisting of white grey and orange with the orange mainly tailing out at the bottom.
Erin Coal
High-waisted pants with a gold lace top was the start of the show, next came ponchos and shawls made of contrasting patterns and one girl even walked down the catwalk entirely covered in a black lace shawl. Our attention was well and truly grabbed.
Sef Farrugia
Patches of patterns and colours, contrasting stitching and bold colours were the trends here. A lovely outfit was a pair of high-waisted cropped wool trousers paired with a patterned bralet.
Ewa Nowacka
The current trend of including sporty elements was a feature here, lots of outfits had mesh sections, other trends were gold piping and peplum flares. Interesting combination of sexy, elegance and casual.
Fretka
The contrasting buttons and pockets used in the coats gave them a vibrant touch, lots of geometric patterns and the colours black and white were the main features here. An interesting outfit was a pair of tailored trousers in block colours paired with a patterned crop top
Muriel couture
The opening lime green wool coat worn over a dark green dress remained my favourite outfit. Also memorable was a white fur stole worn backwards over a blue jewelled dress whilst many of the outfits had lots of elaborate jewels and also, beading adorned many of the outfits.
