Travel: Restaurants in Krakow

People who know me well would probably describe me as a somewhat fussy eater, which is true, I have high expectations and unfortunately there a lot of different kinds of foods that make my ‘dislike list’.  That being said, things I do like I tend to love and eat a lot of. Before I arrived in Krakow, I researched and compiled a list of the best restaurants and was determined to get through as many as possible on t hat list in one week. Sadly there is only so much food one person can eat in a week and I didn’t get to try them all.
Here are my recommendations if you’re in the city
Restaurant Gessler
Beautiful setting and brilliant Espresso Lunch – 3 course meal with brilliant fine dining service accompanied to live music – all for 5 euros per head.
Pod Baranemi
Michelin recommended and totally deserving of it, I had a lovely lunch here with very attentive service. A very tasty starter of bread and lard is presented on the house. I ordered pork as main and the meat was so tender and cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes were truly melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Sadly, no chocolate on the desert menu but my crème brulee was the perfect combination of sweet and airy.
Restaurant Starka
Great pork knuckle and home-made flavoured vodkas …many of flavours to choose from. This is located in the Jewish district and like a lot of places there has an interesting quirky decor.
U Babci Maliny
Cheap and cheerful with many interesting Polish dishes, very large portions too.
Wierzynek
Brilliant view, beautiful building, perfect service …and yummy food, although this restaurant is somewhat expensive, dining here is a wonderful experience in every sense. This place is great to celebrate a special occasion. I had very tasty pierogi as a starter, a brilliantly cooked duck breast as a main and a lovely scrumptious chocolate souffle for desert.
