Anne Hathaway For Vogue

Ever since I found out (rather late actually… must have been in a far far away land) that my favourite musical Les Miserables is being released in a brand new movie format this December, I’ve been listening to the soundtrack on repeat and watching and re-watching the trailer….you may be sensing some excitement ….
Anne Hathaway has been cast as Fontaine the down-on-her luck single mother who tries to live an honest life but ends up having to resort to prostitution. For the role Anne Hathaway lost over 11 kilos/25 pounds, yes I know “from where?” was my reaction too, but she did need to look like a starved dying prostitute so it does make some sense.
Back to fashion issues….for the December issue,  Annie Leibovitz shot an excellent character photospread of the cast of the movie for Vogue USA.
Anne Hathaway was selected as the cover star and she also gives the magazine an interview, talking about how whilst filming the movie she became almost disjointed with reality. From the photos she appears to have thankfully put the weight back on.
I love the clothes she’s wearing, the baroque waistcoat is a perfect complement to the frilled shirt and with those high waisted trousers there’s such a mix of androgynous and femininity that it feels almost too clever.  The velvet dress is another winner, and combined with the superb vintage editing of the photo you might be forgiven for thinking this a photograph of a time gone by.
