Last Week I was invited to Pippa Toledo’s Bag and Jewellery showcase at her design studio in St Julians. I have of course seen her beautiful designs before, but still, I was awed and impressed seeing all her collections displayed together in one small room. I was especially awed by her new collection. One of the best words I can use to describe her designs is ELABORATION, rich materials, elaborate, aristocratic designs and excellent craftsmanship are the ingredients that make up her pieces and the result is truly stand out pieces.
Each piece is unique, there are no duplicates, although items in the same collection do have similar elements in their design. The new collection focuses heavily on handmade gold crochet which is a beautiful art and one must appreciate the time that goes into making crochet. Regulars to this blog should guess just how pleased I must have been to see velvet used abundantly in the new collection 🙂
One thing to keep in mind, is that barely any of the items in her collections are designed to blend into an outfit but rather to create the outfit – they are the starting point and clothes and other ingredients must blend into the background. I truly fell in love with a number of items, both bags and jewellery and it was only my already dwindled bank account, from too much Christmas shopping and the knowledge of more presents still to be bought, that stopped me from reaching for my credit card and taking home one of her beautiful bags.
Her jewellery is also stunning, ranging from some more simplistic designed items to others that are a masterpiece in art and design.
The pricing is also very good, whilst obviously not cheap, the prices are a far cry away from luxury designer prices; for a sum that ranges approximately between 100 to 250 euros, one of these bags can be given a very good home. If that still seems like too much money to part with, then a pair of these exquisite handmade crochet earrings will only set you back 55 euros.
Check out her page on facebook , her pieces can be bought online or from her studio at Garden Terrace Court, Tril il-Baltiku, The Village, St Julians, STJ 1881.
