Styling Work : Venere – Sleeping Beauty

I’ve mentioned Venere quite a few times before but for those of you still in the dark, Venere is a Maltese Fashion reality TV programme on TVM – FOR THE NEXT TWO MONTHS VENERE IS AIRING SUNDAYS AT 6:00 WITH A REPEAT TUESDAY AT 10:45, featuring “Gorgeous models, tantalizing dresses, extravagant hair do’s, alluring make up and witty photographers”. Every week a different team made up of a photographer, clothes stylist, hair stylist and make-up artist(s) undergo the task of coordinating a different photoshoot according to a predetermined theme.

I styled yesterday’s Venere episode, for which the theme was Sleeping Beauty
I’m sure the majority of us know the story of Sleeping Beauty so not going to go into detail but the general gist of our interpretation is: Beauty has been asleep frozen in time for a 100 years because of a spell an evil fairy Maleficent has performed. Her three ‘good’ fairies search and search for a prince to break the spell and defeat Maleficent. They find him, he wins and everyone lives happily ever after.
As regards styling, my task was to make everyone except Beauty look modern day 21st century whilst Beauty needed to look circa 100 years ago and therefore be dressed in vintage princess style clothing.
I decided to dress the fairies in elegant cocktail-style dresses. The red fairy (Mandy) wore a red halter-neck dress with a fur stole, I chose the halter-style to bring out her long neckline and elegant shoulders. The blue fairy (Jessica) worse a tight long blue dress which highlighted her lovely small frame and the green fairy (Louisa) worse a wrap teal dress and large bead necklaces which was chosen to highlight her curves.
For Maleficent (Yanika) I needed to project an element of evil and sexiness so I decided to go for a velvet theme, since the  model is somewhat curvy, I also wanted to highlight these curves to generate the touch of sexiness I was looking for . I used a tight, long black velvet dress, a long black velvet cape and then a short vintage red cape on top of everything.
Beauty (Emily) wore a vintage wedding dress made predominantly of beautiful antique lace – this is actually my mother-in-law’s wedding dress – I was lucky to have it !!
The prince (Matthew) ,I needed to look dashing and sexy, so I asked him to wear jeans and a white shirt and to leave the shirt half open.
The hubby was the photographer and he chose to present the photos as a comic which worked really well with the concept.
