Downton Abbey is a British period drama television series created by Julian Fellowes and co-produced by Carnival Films and Masterpiece – Wikepedia
If you’re not already hooked on Downton Abbey then shame on you – its brilliant – ‘nough said. AND it stars Maggie Smith AND the styling evokes heart wrenching nostalgia for a time gone by – when dressing for dinner was a daily occasion So Go Watch It NOW.
As I impatiently await Season 4 to begin, wondering what more misfortune awaits this supposedly privileged family, I can’t help my mind wandering to the brilliant wardrobe. In particular to their hats.
I’m a hat person, I think I’ve left the house sporting head wear of some sort every day for the last two weeks and I don’t discriminate between morning and evening but my head wear tends to usually consts of beanies, slouchy hats, floppy berets, turbans not sleeky, structured work-of-art hats; basically not the kind shown on Downton Abbey.
I do own some beautiful hats, both vintage and modern-day made, but somehow, I rarely seem to just think of putting these on on a ‘normal’ day….also I think I’d be guaranteed a few stares….for these women, wearing a beautiful hat is a must, not something you deliberate *sigh*.
Check out some of my favourite hats on the show:
The show’s popularity has inspired some modern-day milliners to produce some ‘inspired’ hats.
I found this store on Etsy that has some pretty ones – The Millinery Shop.
