Beauty Post : Guest Writer Steph Lauri – Nail maintenance and Nailpolish Trends

Today we have a guest writer in the house !!

Beauty Therapist and makeup artist Stephanie Lauri has written an article about nail maintenance and nailpolish trends for this season – just in time before Malta Fashion Week begins !!!

Hey everyone,

To most countries around the world spring weather means removing the thicker clothing layers. In Malta our spring turns into summer very quickly, which means showing a little skin and working on our summer bodies. Fashion and beauty go hand in hand, for instance, beautiful shoes mean you must have the perfect pedicure…

Nail polish trends have always been popular, and as a nail tech or consumer there are new brands on the market for us to adore, Inspiration is everywhere! You only have to check out Pinterest for the latest looks. One thing that is changing is our attitude to our hands & feet, women and men are paying more attention. It is no longer seen as a luxury but a necessity to look after them! It is becoming a taboo to have rough chipped and neglected nails.

For the woman who doesn’t have time to wait for her polish to dry there is Gelish. The perfect three week polish look with high gloss shine. For this reason in the last two years I have had many clients convert and fall in love. That doesn’t mean that polish sales have dropped as many women crave change and with so many fantastic colours nail polish is now seen as the accessory to an outfit. I have a lot of clients that bring clothing into the salon when choosing their polish colours!

Short vs Long nails…

This is a very personal choice and trend wise shorter nails are more fashionable. I think they look neater, they are easier to maintain and the wearer can use bold colours without the fear their nails looking over the top. Then again longer nails will lengthen fingers and finishes like the classic French look awkward on shorter nails. Whatever length you feel comfortable with always keep them neat! There is nothing worse than stained, bitten or dirty nails.

Colour prediction.

Trend spotting: I love the brand Illamasqua and their speckled polish collection called “Imperfections”. Check out this video from Sephora below:

and Ciate and their chalk board nails.

This year I am seeing lots of gorgeous pastels in the market! They are fresh, cute and extremely feminine I love the pale pastel yellows and peaches.

The classic red has a slightly more coral tinge in summer, I love the LCN range called “shades of the desert” which have a beautiful colour called “Hot Chili” – this is the too die for red for toes.

The ombre nail trend (using a different shade on each nail) has been going strong since 2012 and I don’t see it stopping any time soon as this is a really lovely effect without being too daring.

However you like to wear your nails do it with confidence.

Steph.
