Brand Spotlight : Malta Fashion Week New Designer – Natalya Vassallo

Next Wednesday the 8th of May, the New Designers Fashion Show will take place at Xara Lodge Malta. Until Wednesday I will be shining the spotlight on each of these ‘new designers’, a different one each day.

Today we shine the spotlight on Natalya Vassallo

When did you first start to get interested in fashion design?
I started knitting at 10 years old so it has been more than 20 years

When did you actually start?
I have never stopped.  I try to knit every day and always think about my own patterns.
Tell us something about the collection you have designed for fashion week?
My clothes are not the usual thing.
I present knitted and felted items. Knitting using mix of different technique( Irish  technique, machine knit and traditional crochet).

I create felted items from organic top wool. I use white wool from sheep of Malta, however, since Maltese wool has more than 32 micron, I add merino wool, then felting will be done.

Accessories and bags are also hand made using wool. This is a good way to show the audience how to use Malta’s natural resources.

Any photos from any previous work/collections?

From where do you draw on for inspiration and are there are any other designers that inspire you?

Carol Ann Duffy,   interviewed  in  one  magazine said that:
Genius is one percent inspiration and  ninety-nine percent perspiration
Inspiration comes from experiences which people have whilst doing any creative work.

Sneak peak (image) of what you are going to be exhibiting in Fashion Week?

Good Luck Alfio !!! We will all be watching out for you on Wednesday
