Brand Spotlight : Malta Fashion Week New Designer – Celeste by Martina

Before I started taking part in Fashion shows and photoshoots, I had never really thought of Fashion design as something I could do. I was always interested in sewing and making bags and accessories but fashion design had never really popped into my head before I started selling a few bags and before I had my first photoshoot. 

When did you actually start ?

I started around 4 years ago, when I was 17 years old, by having two outfits shown on Phase magazine and later that year having by first fashion show. People loved what I made, I loved the feeling of watching my outfits being modeled…and I never looked back from fashion design. Now it’s all I want to do.

Tell us something about the collection you have designed for fashion week?

The collection I have designed for fashion week is in collaboration with Pavlistyle. We wanted the collection to be fun, feminine but also androgynous. It is minimalistic but wearable. We aimed it at business people who want to look smart, but not boring and want to stand out without being too over the top.

Which is your all-time favourite piece that you have created?

My all-time favorite piece has to be the dress I made for my SS2012 shown at Runway Malta.

From where do you draw on for inspiration and are there are any other designers that inspire you?

I draw a lot of my inspiration from nature and my surrounding environment. Sometimes it is the simplest things that inspire me, totally random stuff like a watch, a sound, or part of song. I try not to look at other designers for inspiration but my favorite designers have to be Donna Karan and Yohji Yamamoto.
