Brand Spotlight : Malta Fashion Week New Designer – Creative Factory 7

Next Wednesday the 8th of May, the New Designers Fashion Show will take place at Xara Lodge Malta.

Until Wednesday I will be shining the spotlight on each of these ‘new designers’, a different one each day.

Today we shine the spotlight on CF7 by Angelique Attard and Charlene Muscat
When did you start to get interested in fashion design?
After we earned our art related degrees we joined forces and started painting on anything and everything; canvas, walls, clothes and shoes. Our soft spot for fashion has always been strong; one fine day, after a lot of brainstorming, we decided to shift from oil and acrylic, to fabric paint, and later to fabric printing. And that was the start of the concept of wearable art and CF7.
When did you actually start?
We always took part in small events to showcase our work; the feedback was great! After a collection of brooches, and a dress worn by presenter Claire Aguis for the malta Tv Awards 2010 we decided to take it a step further and in 2011 we had the opportunity to design our first six piece collection for MFW. It was called NEON 2011; we actually designed and hand painted all the clothes and shoes. The concept? Bridging visual art and fashion, from museums to the catwalk!
Tell us something on the collection you have designed for this fashion week?
We will present you CHROMA 2013; A cocktail of mosaic from recycled magazines, watercolour and ink brush strokes, 60’s geometric designs, and overlapping of different layers of clothing, being printed or literal! A good mix between these four was the main idea behind this year’s collection. Being fans of vintage fasion, especially the 60’s and also crazy about colour, we decided to engage these two aspects together creating prints which are repeated throughout the whole collection.
Any photos from previous collections?
Earthworks 2012 featured a photographic collage of Maltese landscapes and seascapes printed on satin. We were lucky enough to collaborate with Photographer Tonio Lombardi and stylist Marisa Grima for the outcome of Earthworks 2012: the shoot.
Previous work can be found also on our website www.creativefactory7.com
Which is your all time favourite piece that you have created?
Charlene; ‘If I had to choose…a brooch in vintage style featuring my mum as a kid, and the sea dress from Earthworks 2012 which reminds me of our Mediterranean climate.’
Angelique; I still recall the moment I finished painting Claire’s dress for the tv Awards 2010. Loved it instantly!
From where do you draw inspiration and there are any other designers that inspire you?
NEON 2011 was all about shape and colour, EARTHWORKS 2012 recounts our Maltese landscapes and seascapes, and CHROMA 2013 mingles colourful brushstrokes, mosaic and 60’s bold graphics. We are inspired by simple cuts and bold designs, visual art, fashion, people and places. We are very much in love with top designers Karl Lagerfield for Chanel, Zuhair Murad, Mary Katrantzou, Vivienne Westwood and Donatella Versace.
Sneak peak (PHOTO) of what you are going to exhibit?
Good Luck Guys !!! We will all be watching out for you on Wednesday
