Events & Beauty Post : Eyebrow Threading at Ayur Veda Salon

As a Malta Fashion Week incentive, bloggers were invited for a complimentary eyebrow threading session at Ayur Veda Salon Malta. In actual fact, this was not my first visit to the salon, I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded there for over a year and have actually been meaning to write up about it for a while now. I decided to take this as an opportunity to also to interview Dorianne (the threading master).

As regards my own experience, I’ve been doing it for over a year, so I am obviously more than happy with the results. Shaping my eyebrows is something I am actually really bad at and prior to meeting Dorianne, I always had awful eyebrows that I had to stay filling in with eyebrow pencil. These days I only get the pencil out when it has been over two weeks since I’ve been to the salon and a bit of help is necessary. She has also started tinting my eyebrows lately to get the full brow effect made so fashionable by Cara Delevingne and I LOVE it.

Where did you learn the art of threading ?

I learned threading in a traditional school in Kerala, India in 2004

How much of a challenge was learning the skill ?

Quite a challenge, in fact I used to practice on a large surface area such as the upper thigh until I mastered the technique.

When did you first start using threading as a hair removal method in Malta ?

Ayur.Veda organic wellbeing opened it’s doors in July 2009, we were the first organic salon on the Maltese islands and the first to introduce threading hair removal

Does it hurt ?

If threading is performed  by a professional it does not hurt. The process takes a very short while, in fact, you could be done in minutes. Also having your hairs plucked out by a tweezer takes longer since with threading hair is remover at a faster rate and several hairs at a time.

On average, after how long can one expect regrowth ?

Everyone’s regrowth is different, however the result stays longer then waxing or tweezing since all hairs even the finest ones are removed with threading

Can it be done anywhere on the body and how often can it be done ?

Threading can be done on the face (full facial hair removal = lips sides chin neck – this is the most requested at Ayur.Veda), underarms, bikini line and other small areas on the body however we also offer threading or the legs and arms for those with skin issues.

Any do’s and dont’s in terms of aftercare and preparation ?

Ideally clients put a freeze on their tweezers before they come to see me so that I can create the best shape for them, the more hairs I have the better the result is. Threading pulls out even the tiniest of hairs therefore no need to wait for a certain length to have this procedure. As regards to aftercare, I always recommend organic aloe vera gel or the equivalent to soothe and calm the area.
