il-Klikka Spotlight : Interview with Taryn Mamo Cefai aka Sarah Degiorgio

In the lead up to the big season finale of the Maltese TV series il-Klikka, (for which I am the stylist), which is happening at the cinema, I have decided to start a series of interviews with the actors and actresses of the main characters of the il-Klikka series .
Today we meet actress Taryn Mamo Cefai aka Sarah Degiorgio (as she is known on il-klikka)

So, who is Taryn?
The million dollar question! Taryn is the baby of the big
Klikka family which is awesome because they all give me advice and treat me
like a baby sister! I’m a complete social butterfly and love to party but also
a dedicated student at the University of Malta, where I am reading for a BA in
Communications with Psychology. My family and friends are my life and I would
do anything for them. I also LOVE junk food and throughout exam time I live on
chocolate, chips and energy drinks! I’m the weird friend who puts the radio
full on and does the crazy dance, just to make others smile. I’m also a
multitasker and my biggest wish is to find a cure for sleep, just so I could
have more time to do more things!

And… Who is Sarah Degiorgio?
Sarah is a different person in ways but similar in others, I
guess that’s the fun of it. Sarah is conservative but like myself, is very
driven and works hard to achieve her goals in life, especially when it comes to
work, friends and family. She cares deeply about the people around her and
tries hard to help out with their problems, sometimes forgetting her own in the
process. Both Sarah and I are also family oriented people so I can truly
understand how upset and frustrated she gets during family feuds. Sarah is not
outgoing and holds back at times, I honestly will never understand how she
managed to avoid Julia, her bestfriend, for so long!

Do you think Sarah was right to trust Andrea?
I don’t fall in love easily and would never accept being
kept in darkness about someone’s past, especially when I’m spending so much
time with them. BUT I guess when you love someone you always see the best in
them and Sarah trusted her gut!:)

When did your interest in acting first begin? And we heard
you are a dancer too?
My mother always said I was born to be on stage. I started
ballet at the tender age of 3 but only took up theatre when I was offered a
scholarship by Edward Mercieca to join stagecoach. Since then I’ve never looked
back and theatre has been my life. Singing, dancing and acting. You name it,
I’ve done it. Last year I spent a year in London studying Musical Theatre full
time after being accepted by Bird College. It was a dream come true.

What inspires you? Is there anyone or anything that you feel
has influenced your acting style?
Ever since I was a little girl, people have said I look like
Anne Hathaway, who I’ve always adored and eventually, she has inspired a big
part of my acting style. She’s just a versatile gem and her work is perfection.
We’re talking about a woman who’s gone from acting in Ella Enchanted to singing
her lungs out (literally) in Les Miserables; simply amazing. Another more
realistic inspiration is Denise Mulholland who has been my teacher, mentor and
friend. She inspires me every day with her endless knowledge and her priceless
advice.

What do you think of Sarah’s fashion style ?
I KNEW you were going to ask this question!! Haha everyone
knows what I think about it: BORING! The clothes I wore on the show were
perfect for the role but Taryn is a totally different person. I love anything
colourful, patterned, sparkly and chic, so Sarah and I are definitely not on
the same page. I want my shorts and crop tops back PLEASEEEEEE.

What has been your proudest career moment?
There are many moments that bring a smile to my face but the
most beautiful one was when I told my parents I had been accepted for a
Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre at Bird College in London. Their faces
were priceless. After a lot of hugging and crazy time my mum just went ‘So
wait, you need tap shoes too now?’

Describe the scene you found most difficult from these two
seasons of il-Klikka?
This is easy; all my crying scenes. I find it very hard to
cry because I deal with sadness the complete opposite way, but hey that’s why
it’s called acting.

Plans for 2013?
Ohhh so many plans, so little time. I’ve just been chosen to
spend 4month studying at the University of Limerick in Ireland so that’s
definitely big news. With regards to theatre, I won’t kiss and tell so stay
tuned..
