Beauty Post : NYX and HD Makeup

Recently, NYX Cosmetics
opened their first store in Malta
and alhough they have many exciting products, one of the product ranges
that excited me most was the HD Makeup Range. For those not in the know, HD makeup is
something invented over the last years after HD image technology arrived to our screens.

HD technology brings beautiful, crystal clear, lifelike images to our
screen, however, it also brings every pock mark, blemish or any kind of face defect to our screens along with a clear view of all traces of the makeup used to try and conceal these defects. Enter HD makeup, designed to conceal all and provide the smoothest skin possible all whilst remaining invisible even under an HD camera.

When I realised NYX had an HD makeup range, I quickly
put in a request to review the range and luckily enough this was granted. I decided that in order to review these
products correctly, I needed to try them out multiple times and see how they
fared under different circumstances. The first trial I conducted was during one of the Miss Malta programmes which is transmitted live on air using HD cameras. The second trial was on a 10 hour day
which involved lots of running around from place to place collecting clothes
for photoshoots and styling anoher photoshoot, the third trial was on a 13 hour work day
involving another photoshoot, a fashion show and a fashion party. As luck would have it on such a busy week, some spots cropped up on my skin which is unfortunate of course but also meant I could really put this makeup to the test.
The Primer the very first step of proper makeup application. A good primer can make all the difference in how long makeup lasts  and how smooth the appearance is.
NYX Claim – “This water-based makeup primer fills in pores, minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and mattifies the complexion for a seamless finish”.
Thoughts – Applying this primer was very easy, it went on smooth and was really easy to spread around and blend in.

The Foundation
NYX Claim – “create the appearance of smooth flawless skin—even under most high-definition technology…. infused with tri-peptides that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and helps rejuvenate skin.”
Thoughts – The foundation feels really sheer, there’s none of that cakey appearance normally found in foundations that provide good coverage, it blends in like a dream, and felt really lightweight and comfortable on my face. It also concealed every imperfection on my face.

The Concealer
NYX Claim -“This lightweight cover-up obscures imperfections, discoloration and under eye circles, without ever looking cakey or obvious.”
Thoughts – When I went to the store they didn’t actually have the right colour in stock for me to test so instead I took one that is slightly too light to use as a highlighter on top of my normal under eye concealer. Again, I was very pleased with the consistency of this product and the concealer did a great job of adding light to my my under eye area which was showing clear signs of sleep deprivation.

The Grinding Setting Powder
NYX Claim – “The result is a finely-milled, high-definition face powder that, once applied, deflects light, reduces the appearance of pores and smooths your complexion” I’ve never had a grinding powder before, it’s a brilliant packaging idea, one grind gives you enough for one application and the rest remains in the jar completely uncontaminated.”
Thoughts – I don’t normally use setting powder, I don’t feel I need it as I have dry skin and therefore don’t really suffer from shine or oil related problems.  However since this is a review I went for it, the powder didn’t dry out my skin or make it appear dry or cakey, my skin actually looked really pretty and my complexion was not too matte..

The Grinding Blush
NYX Claim – “finely-milled, mineral-enriched blush that, once applied, deflects light, reduces the appearance of pores and smooths your complexion”
Thoughts – This was actually my least favourite product of the range, this blush isn’t the easiest to apply and has possibly a bit too much shine, it also requires some more blending than other blush as otherwise it can easily look slightly patchy. When applied correctly it does look very nice though.
The Finishing Powder
NYX Claim – “Perfect for setting your foundation or wearing alone, it leaves your skin looking radiant and luminous while it applies neutral, so it works on all skin tones.”
Thoughts – This stuff is pure white and may seem a bit scary at first, no need to worry, it has the loveliest satin finish a powder can possibly have, pure perfection.

Overall Review Result
I’m over-the-top happy with this range and I award it an overall 10/10, makeup lasts really long and was still intact after about 8 hours (needed some topping up after that), skin looked beautiful, really really perfect and my skin was glowing (in a good way). P.S I also used the HD eye base but i will review that separately.
This is an unedited photo taken with an HD camera after having just applied it.

For the purpose of this review, I use the whole range but I realise this may be too much of a commitment for some – in the coming weeks I will be reviewing each product separately worn with non HD makeup and e will see ho they fare.
