Trends Post : This Winter the Coats are Coming

Whilst I know it’s still a far cry away from coat weather, especially for my Maltese readers, the shops are already stocking them and if you want to snap up the best ones, you might have to think ahead.

Of course, it looks somewhat odd that all trend reports are stating that coats are really in trend this season.. I mean a coat is kind of a staple for Winter..was there a year when it wasn’t in trend? What would those poor people living in sub-zero temperature have done? However, what they mean to say is that the popularity of the coat has had a spectacular rise and whilst in previous years owing two tailored coats and wearing them to keep warm was enough, this year the coat is THE key part of the look. As Anna Wintour put it in her byline for this year’s Vogue September Issue; ‘the coat has almost replaced the handbag‘.

Because of this rise in popularity, it means there are lots of different designs/colours/fits around the shops; so I’m sure we can all find something to suit our individual tastes and budgets.

• Dusty pink – sugarly sweet and ultra feminine..I can’t believe I’ve lived all my life with one
• Oversized –  the bigger the better – think BIG..literally!
• Toggled – remember those toggle buttons? They’re back on coats in both edgy and casual variations!
• Masculine – raid your man’s wardrobe
• Textured – with leather inserts and lots of fur (both real and faux)
• Classic Tailored – there’s a reason it’s called classic; it never dies out, go for a neutral or bold colour or even something patterned.
• Trench – when has this not been in trend?
