Beauty Post : NYX HD Studio Finishing Powder

Some weeks ago I reviewed the entire HD makeup range of NYX, I also promised individual reviews of all the various products too. The first one was the NYX Grinding Setting Powder. Today the HD Studio Finishing Powder is up for review.

NYX Claim – “The white stuff. This 100% pure mineral silica finishing powder is a miracle in a jar. Perfect for setting your foundation or wearing alone, it leaves your skin looking radiant and luminous while it applies neutral, so it works on all skin tones. ”

Review – I’ve used this both as the final step of the entire HD makeup steps of NYX and also over my other MAC foundation and blush and also just under my eyes to set my under-eye concealer. It obviously gives great results in the first test, t was after all designed to work with the NYX range primarily but it also worked pretty well in the other two tests. It completely eliminates shine on any part of the face and sets makeup very nicely without any cake-like appearance. The best way to apply this is with a very light hand using a soft kabuki or stipling brush.

One thing i noticed is that it has a slightly diffusing effect so for example if you’ve put on your blusher and then you apply this powder over…the blush intensity will be reduced..and any shine pigment will also be reduced..this is quite normal with all finishing powders but I thought this might have a more a mattifying effect than some others. This isn’t an issue for me, just something to be aware of, what I do is simply apply a bit more blush than I would otherwise if I plan on using this powder. I have also tried applying some shine powder over the finishing powder rather than under and that worked very nicely too.
In terms of how long lasting it is, I don’t have oily skin; it’s rather dry for the most part except for occasionally a spot of shine in the upper t-zone area. When I didn’t use the entire NYX range and  simply used a lightweight foundation, blush and this powder on top, I did see some shine on my forehead after about 8 hours, yes I know 8 hours is a lot but my days do tend to be never ending. For those with rather oily skin I suspect they might need some touch ups after a few hours.
Overall I am very happy with this powder and would definitely purchase it once my batch has been sued up, which might actually be quite soon.
