Charles&Ron should need no introduction, they have been at the forefront of Maltese local fashion design for a number of years now. This year for the first time, for the Christmas period, they have opened up an exclusive popup store making it possible for customers to simply drop by the store and view their collection and purchase a piece or two of course!

Although I’ve written about their collections before, I decided it was high time you guys found out a bit more about this duo and how it all began.
In their own words:
When and how did you both first start to get interested in the world fashion design?
Fashion is something we were both born with. Can’t really say we got interested at a certain time or another, but we both regarded it as our profession when we were still in our 20’s.
When did you actually start designing? Can you describe what it was like at the beginning?
We started out by designing clothes, actually a summer collection. It was very exciting as it was something we’ve always dreamt of doing and finally it was all happening.
What do you feel has been your greatest achievement(s) to date?
Our highlight is a show for Rai Uno. Whilst amongst others, being invited to Toronto Fashion Week to expo there, winning 3 awards at Malta Fashion Awards and recently receiving an award from ONE TRIBUTE.
Which is your all-time favourite piece that you have created?
Our latest collection is always the favoured to date.
Do you feel that the fashion industry is improving in Malta? What do you feel is our biggest limitation?
We obviously have limitations due to our size and have to overcome many obstacles, but when you work hard anything is possible. The scene has grown and hopefully will slowly grow into being an actual industry.
From where do you draw on for inspiration and are there are any other designers that inspire you?
We get inspired from things around us, mostly Maltese related or something that has a Maltese motif. Then, we combine these inspirations with our ideas to create a mood board from which point we start our collection brainstorming.
Tell us about your pop-up shop? Any plans to have a permanent Store?
Our pop-up shop was an idea we came up with last summer. We had been longing for our exclusive shop for some time now and a pop-up shop during these festive season seemed like a sublime idea. Located in Attard, exactly at the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa, this shop is ideally and centrally located, very close to our studio in Birkirkara.
We never exclude the possibility of opening a permanent store in the coming future. This would be mostly for our Leather Bags and Accessories whilst keeping our studio for exclusive made-to-measure clothing.
