Events: PINK goes to the Ballet

This season’s PINK fashion show had a bit of a different twist – it wasn’t seated. It also incorporated home elements and a few rooms. The idea was, that people would move from room to room whilst taking in what the different models were wearing (the models walked and stood  in the centre of each room). Of course, it took a few moments for the concept to be understood and I heard many remarks such as – “Standing !!!! In these shoes – you have got to be kidding”. I did jokingly pass a remark that maybe there should have been a ‘standing required‘ remark on the invite.

Once the event began and it all started to flow, people seemed to forget about their shoes and you could really see that the concept of a standing show is a brilliant one for Malta. It allows for more people to be present and it allows us to use buildings and rooms that are beautiful but not of the dimensions required for a traditional catwalk.  A very important point is that at this style of event, there is a lot more time in which to properly look at what the model is wearing, it’s easier to speak to different people and of course, last but not least –  you’re served food and drink whilst you watch.
The event was held at the beautiful Palazzo de Piro which actually used to be my secondary school, waves of nostalgia hit me as soon as I entered the building, the backstage room was actually my old Form 4 classroom. Some people remarked as to how lucky I was to be at school at such a beautiful place, I did love it but to be fair, it did look rather different back then, there has been some beautiful restoration work done to the place.
On to the fashion – as usual a number of brands participated – Bata, Malta, Calvin Klein Jeans, Furla, GUESS? Jeans Malta, Joseph Ribkoff, Liu Jo, River Island, Stradivarius, and for the first time two local designers, Carla Grima’s Studio and Saz Mifsud, this drew a lot of interest from the crowd. The outfits were styled by Marisa Grima and there was lots of fashion eye candy. The theme of the show was ballet and ballerinas joined the models on the centre ‘stages’ in various balletic poses. Hairstyles by Screen were kept sleek and elegant using buns and braids and the makeup by Franks was lovely and quite natural-looking.
