Historic Days at Xara Palace

I can clearly recall that as a teen, I was rather put off by anything ‘old’ – I called it boring and outdated and gravitated towards anything and everything with a modern feel. As a young adult, (I wish), I have made such a full circle in this matter. I’m such a vintage / antique lover, I now gravitate towards, old buildings, old pieces of furniture, antiques, even vintage replicas. I find the stories and ideas behind something old to be so captivating, so enchanting. One of the best places that really exemplifies this is the Xara Palace. The Xara Palace Relais & Châteaux as it is actually named is really rather unique – a 17th-century palace tucked away in a little spot in Mdina. Last weekend, I celebrated 5 years of marriage to someone who I also consider my best friend, better known on this blog as The Hubby or the hubby photographer.

Soooo when two children feel like having fun what do they get up to? Well there was all manner of merriment, from having tea in the lobby next to the beautiful Xmas Tree – yes the tree excited me, jumping around on the BIG bed (one night of the hubby not complaining that I had hogged the entire bed – yesss !), champagne, room service, more pigginess at breakfast and ofc shooting an outfit post (just had to be done). The suite we were given was quite large, it housed some beautiful pieces of antique furniture and lots of windows which equalled lots of natural light.

The best thing about the stay? Besides the big bed you mean? I would say it was waking up to the view. The hotel is actually perched on the centuries-old bastions of Mdina, so the view is simply out of this world. The second best thing was spending 24 hours being treated like a princes,s both by the hubby and the hotel staff – yey!
