LFW : Day 1

So I woke up Friday mornings on Day 1 of LFW bright and energised – ha I wish. I actually woke up groggy and sleepy for some insane reason and couldn’t make myself move faster than a snail’s pace. I am holding my recent bout of sickness responsible and the fact that I lost my voice for a few days – not being able to talk must have played havoc with my karma and all.
So back to yesterday morning and the first thing I did was walk 20 minutes to the nearest post office to pick up an invite that needed signing for – there was a bit of excitement, maybe it’s a special one – of course, it was a pack of invites that I had already received, nice of them to send doubles..but you know..a twenty minute walk and in the wrong direction and all that.
So finally at around 10.30 I got to Brewer St. Car Park – yep LFW is still being held there. Love it or hate it, looks like it’s here to stay and there’s not much anyone can do about it. After pottering about inside and seeing what’s new and all that, I hopped off to the Felder Felder show which was a bit of a walk away and as always it was running late and we had to wait..outside..in the cold..so glamorous.
Loved, loved the show – so spunky, such fun – glorious rock girls came to life in a nod towards David Bowie and rock n roll in general. Loved the chainmail sweaters and the prints.

Edeline Lee was next – another one that didn’t disappoint, very interesting setup with lots of colouras the backdrop in the presentation. Set against simple but beautiful pieces, the effect was mesmerising.
The next one up was Manuel Facchini, I’m quite a big fan of this designer, his structured pieces, using high-quality materials are perfect. I love the patterns he uses, and the details such as laser cutting, rounded shoulders, cinched in waists, everything about these pieces screams power, statement and influence – nothing basic about these in the least.
Ong Oaj Param was right next door and was quite a highlight. Apart from seeing one of the Breaking Bad actors in the audience, the pieces were quite sensational. The different pieces are those type of pieces you wear to a ball and feel like Cinderella. There’s a high level of workmanship here, some of these pieces require a lot of skill and effort to be produced.
My last show of the day was probably my favourite – Paul Costelloe, more on this to come since I spent a lot of time backstage with the Toni and Guy team. It was a vastly different collection to that of the previous seasons and I really think he’s headed in the right direction by combining his feminine silhouettes with a modern, powerful influence.

To close off the day, an after party was in order – there were a few on last night but  The Grooming Room’s event at the century club on Shaftesbury Avenue was my choice for the night, lovely location and great cocktails
