Sometimes it’s good to talk about a spot of unfiltered reality and today the topic is leg hair removal which is something every woman will do sometime in their lives. Now, I’ve tried many different methods – waxing, shaving and epilation and I’ve found that all have different pros and cons. However, for the past 2/3 years, I have used exclusively the epilating method and last year I purchased a silk-epil. I had thought about reviewing this product but for some reason never got round to it. However, recently, the Maltese importers contacted me asking if I wanted to try it out – well I happened to own the exact same one so I stuck with mine but I got chatting to them about the product. Apparently very few women understand what it is and how to use it so I decided that this post should appear on this blog. Right so first of all a bit of facts – the model I won is the BRAUN EPILALTOR SILK-EPIL 9-941 and these are some of the product claims.

So let me start by saying that in general I am an epilation fan. I have only ever tried two epilators in my life – this one was by far better than the other but I purchased after reading many user reviews touting it as being the best.

So why do I like epilation ?
The biggest like factor for me is the convenience. Obviously, shaving is also convenient but then that has a huge downfall – thicker hair regrowth and also very fast regrowth. When it comes to waxing I have tried both home and salon waxing and I’m not a fan of either. Salon appointments are a bit of a nightmare for a busy person like me who leads double lives, you have to plan them in advance, then something might crop up or you’re running late etc etc. Then there’s the fact that in order to wax the hair, it must have grown to a certain length and that length is way past my comfort zone to what is acceptable on my legs.  The other problem is that if a spot was missed, well getting to your salon again is your only option. In the case of home waxing, this last point does not apply but then you have the potential of getting wax all over your bathroom floor. Been there done that.

With an epilator, I can use it whenever I want, if I missed a spot, I can easily adjust that. The minute a hair starts to grow, it can be removed, there’s no waiting period. The claim that it can remove much shorter hairs is a completely valid one. What I will say is that it does feel a little slow sometimes, waxing is probably faster, well salon waxing, my at home process was also rather slow. A cool feature on this model si that it lights up so you can see the area you’re epilating.

Hair does indeed grow back lighter and I personally don’t find the procedure painful at all, It was barely painful in the beginning but now it barely even feels lie a twinge.

I do indeed use it on my underarms and bikini area but this is slightly more painful and might depend on your pain threshold. I have never attempted to sue it on my face so can’t comment on that.

The smooth skin is the only factor I wouldn’t say epilation gives you. Actually, with epilation, I find I am slightly more prone to ingrown hairs and need to scrub and moisturise more than with waxing However, that is probably why this model also has an exfoliating attachment that helps refine the skin. I’m not too great at remembering to use this very frequently but when i do it does do a great job.
