Events: Couture & Bijoux

In tiny little Malta, it can be difficult to come across new things, especially in a small industry like the fashion industry. However, impossible it ain’t – new creative minds are coming up with original ideas all the time. So I discovered something new over the last couple of weeks – actually more than one thing at the event Couture & Bijoux. This event was a pop-up shop style of event with wine and nibbles at L-Istazzjon Café & Eatery in Rabat. Available for purchase was a wonderful mix of clothing and jewellery. I was hired to be present at the event as a stylist, to offer advice and tips on whatever you would wish.

There is a shop in Mosta that I’ve known about for a while – Allure Clothing, although I’m in Mosta frequently, I had never gotten round to popping in. So this boutique is a multi-brand store not a franchise and in it live some really interesting brands. As far as clothes go, one of the brands housed is Comino Couture that I’ve officially become obsessed with. These clothes are quite unique, definitely standout, look-at-me pieces that can really make a statement. They’re also pretty well tailored which for me is the main thing as fit is the most important thing. There are also some fantastic shoes, Ruby Shoo, imported from UK and bags by the amazing local designer Fransina Grima.

A more recent category of items the shop has started stocking is semi-precious RTeal jewellery. RTeal is the name of the distributor company and the brands imported are MaraKo’ Gioello Italiano and Gstone Jewels. These brands are Italian and this is quite evident in the designs. There are the more classic pieces but then there are the creative ones like contrastingly-coloured designs, mismatched earrings and great chunky pieces. Obviously, these were my favourite pieces.

The event Couture & Bijoux was a master-mind of these great people along with one more brand who launched at the event that I will talk about soon.

To start off with, check out some photos taken inside Allure Clothing of both the jewellery and the clothes.

Now for the event. I hinted that at the event one new brand was present and that was the lovely, artisanal MOMENTS – Exquisitely Handcrafted Jewellery by Marita Pisani from Gozo who is creating some really interesting handmade jewellery. Each piece is uniquely and lovingly crafted by her own hands using high-quality materials and with her little helper occasionally chipping in. Marita can also create custom bespoke designs, even for weddings.

The event was definitely a success, people were there before and after the set times so definitely a good sign.
