Events Post: Chanel Métiers d’Art Paris-Edinburgh 2013

I’ve mentioned before that Scotland has a special place in my heart, having studied at St Andrews University for a year. So the Chanel Pre-Fall Collection which was presented at Linlithgow Palace, just outside of Edinburgh  (where Mary Queen of Scots was born 700 years ago), evoked a mix of sentiments in me – amazement and wonder at the beautiful fashion masterpieces along with nostalgia for Scotland and its beautiful heritage.
I told you in We’re Tartan In Scotland that tartan is in trend and this collection exemplifies this for you further with tartan and other Scottish heritage being the major trend players.

The girls wore puffy skirts , kilt-like shapes, tartan, coloured, argyle tights,  coats with swagger and skirts in black crepe de chine , huge silk bows at the necklines along with extravagant jewels and of course lots of tweed.  Interesting fact: no heels were present on this runway, the models were all wearing flat boots which according to Karl Lagerfield is a nod to the Scottish highlanders.

The outfits are absolutely amazing with such a great mix of vintage, heritage and modernity, also, although, the outfits as presented on the runway are all over-the-top in a big way, when de constructed the individual pieces are actually very wearable in everyday life and there are quite a few things I could easily see myself wearing.

The show was opened by Stella Tennant who is actually the daughter of a ‘Scottish sheep farmer’  and had bagpipers and a glass citadel constructed for the purpose of the dinner; this was definitely a show to remember.
