Spring/Summer 2011 : It’s Raining Bright…Allellulia

Ladies and Gents bring out your shades because this summer its brighter than bright and as a heads up, you might find your eyes just needing to squint. A man living out in space might be forgiven if upon arrival back on earth,  thinks his eyesight  has gone amiss, fashion hasn’t been this bright in a very long time. Think different block bright colours all together in one outfit, think clashing patterns and think neon but most of all just think fun; after all it is summer and summer is all about having fun.
On the catwalk the most popular colour was tangerine and this colour has already been emulated on the red carpet.

However, we’ve also seen lots of pinks, canary yellows, bright greens and blues both separately and also all together in one outfit !!

Who said red and pink can never be worn together ?? That myth has been well and truly debunked this season. Red and pink were really popular on the catwalk. If you still feel that this is too much for you, a more subtle approach would be to simply wear pink lipstick together with a red dress or just add a little pink bracelet.

How to Wear this trend ?
The idea behind this trend is ‘colour blocking’, meaning blocks of different colours put together in an outfit. It is important to choose plain blocks of bright colours that look good together, e.g pink looks good with both red and purple, orange with blue and green, cobalt blue and red, purple and green and orange. Another important factor is for the colours to be very bright, pastel colours will look half hearted, you need fiery passionate brights.
Simpler, more conservative ideas are to wear one colour head to toe with a different coloured bag or shoes or to add a coloured belt to a neutral outfit. Also, combine different fabrics in one outfit to continue the mix and match effect.
Which Colours to Go For ?
It is worth thinking about which colours suit which skin tones best as some bright colours can actually wash certain skin tones out, which is the opposite of what we really want to achieve.
If you’re dark and/or have a warm/olive skin tone then most bright colours will look good on you, however the warmer shades of orange, yellow and pink will look better than the bluer hues. However, if you’re paler and colder toned then blues, teals and reds along with lighter shades of pink will probably look better on you. One way to know which category you fall under is to check the colour of your veins, those of you with bluish veins have a ‘cold’ skintone whilst those of you with greenish veins have a ‘warm’ skin tone.

Loving the bright colours! It's also pretty easy to pair up a bright top with a pair of jeans for a casual look (this is my new working uniform!)
