Body Shape Post : Stripes and The Body – HORIZONTAL

Big, Bold Stripes
are all around us…. horizontal ones, vertical ones, this season fashion is
literally striped. For some, this might seem to be a scary prospect and a
rather daunting one…after all it’s quite easy to go wrong with stripes, but it’s
all about being clever and finding the correct balance.
Horizontal
Stripes
The thing about
a stripe is that basically – it lengthens, this is what a line is intended to
do after all; so, wherever you place stripes, it means that that part of the
body is going to look longer.
In the case of
horizontal stripes, this means wider. This is the point at which people go
running away, firmly stating that they would never at all want any part of
their body to look wider.
WRONG. There are
times when you do.
For example, a pear shaped person (someone with bigger hips
than waist) should wish to make their upper body wider so as to minimize the
difference between the hips and waist by making their waist area seem wider. A
pear should NEVER wear horizontal stripes on their lower half.
An apple shaped
person (someone with bigger waist than hips) would wish to make their legs
wider so as to make their stomach area seem smaller by comparison. An apple should
NEVER wear horizontal stripes on their upper half.
Check back tomorrow for the low down on vertical stripes
