Tonight, for the first time ever, a fashion show was hosted in the impressive Auberge de Castille, the ‘house’ of the Prime Minister. This show was actually organised under the patronage of Michelle Muscat, the Prime Minister’s wife. For this event I was backstage again helping out as a stylist together with uber stylist Marisa Grima, which meant lots of running around, trying to make sure everyone and everything was organised. This show presented five International Designers.
Marella Ferrera
The show opened with this Sicilian-born’s beautiful, stunning works of art. Hailed as ‘Sicily’s most important atelier’ it is not hard to see why. Her pieces are so intricate, you can just see the hours of hand labour and careful planning and execution that must have gone into each piece.
Her designs have an obvious, distinct Sicilian influence, and there were some classical pieces using lace handcrafting and beautiful jewel details whilst others were bolder and, less classical, with details such as sequins, crystals and flower petals.
I actually simply cannot get over how beautiful these dresses are…I’m started my own planning process to see how at least one of these pieces is going to end up in my wardrobe. Hats off to Marella, she gave us the perfect demonstration as to why ateliers with many years of experience, rather than big brands are the way to go for something truly beautiful. BTW, these exquisite lace earrings and this beautiful bag, are also crafted by the designer.

This London-based Nigerian designer also loves colour and her pieces were bright and bold with a lovely elegant design and lots of beautiful detailing.

Wohooo!! Colour, patterns and lots of style and attitude….this Nigerian designer sure knows how to design clothes that make a statement…her clothes made me want to dance all night long, have fun and jump for joy…the tailoring of each piece is also superb…absolute perfection on all counts.
Kevin Muscat
Stylish !!! Classy, elegant and somewhat minimalistic but with oodles of style and attitude, this Maltese designer did us proud !! I really admired how carefully planned each look was, from the styling for the catwalk to the actual design of each piece. This piece below was probably my favourite, I LOVE the way the orange and black colours meet at the shoulders, such a bold design !!
Biljana Tipsarevic
This Serbian designer had quite a versatile collection, from intricate designs with lovely gold lace threading, to perfect white suits with lots of power and attitude, I was quite hooked. I really liked the suits, very clean lines, minimalistic but at the same time, making a statement.
All the designers impressed me, the standard was impressively high but if i had to pick a favourite, it would have to be Marella..and infact I think I might have driven her mad backstage trying to tell her in my broken Italian, how beautiful her work is.
A gorgeous show which was followed by a lovely reception in the courtyard at Castille.
I always praise Adrian Mizzi and all his team for pulling of each show, but today I want to give a general praise and thanks for all the work done in the area of fashion in Malta. In my opinion, the fact that designers of such a high calibre have come all the way to Malta to exhibit their work, shows just how far forward they have brought fashion over the last years – a heartfelt thanks.
