il-Klikka Spotlight : Interview with John Grech aka Matthew Tabone

In the lead up to the big season finale of the Maltese TV series il-Klikka, (for which I am the stylist), which is still to air on local television, I am conducting an ongoing a series of interviews with the actors and actresses of the main characters of the il-Klikka series .

John is a 914 year old Timelord
disguised as a 24 year old IT and CRM administrator and a geek.  He’s also a theatre/TV actor (Vsquared
and WhatsTheirNames Theatre), a Whovian (Doctor Who fan), gamer, history geek,
science geek, reader of books,  and
an owner of two cats, Sparta & Athena. He has also done a couple of
stand-up comedy gigs with “The Wembley Store Boys” and “The lamp Stamp
Collective” and I have no idea why I’m talking in the third person.
And who
is Matthew ?
Matthew is a married 30 year old
pilot with psychological and emotional issues. He also has a tendency to film
very naughty scenes.  Matt is one
of those characters in “Il-Klikka” who’s shrouded in mystery we don’t know much
about him other than that he’s cheated on his wife with several women including
Julia. All that is about to change though, brace yourselves for a couple of
revelations you weren’t expecting.
Do you
feel like you have anything in common with Matthew ?
We look alike, apparently.
Character wise, I can’t say I’m anything like Matthew.
When did
your interest in acting first begin?
I’ve always wanted to be an
actor, ever since I was a wee lad. I never had any opportunities at secondary
school. But that all changed at Naxxar Higher Secondary thanks to a person whom
I’ll be eternally grateful to, the person who pushed me to become a better
actor and the person who gave me my first chance, Stephen Florian.
What
inspires you? Is there anyone or anything that you feel has influenced your acting
style?
Four actors that have influenced
my acting style are David Tennant, John Simm, Benedict Cumberbatch and Rowan
Atkinson. Their facial expressions and body language during any scene they do
is just phenomenal.
What has
been your proudest career moment?
My two proudest moments are,
acting in the Manoel Theatre and right after the “Il-Klikka” season finale,
where I got a lot of praise for my acting in the last two episodes from the
fans, actors, crew and loved ones, a truly humbling experience which I am
eternally grateful for.
Describe
your hardest scene from these two seasons of il-Klikka?
All the scenes in the
finale…you’ll soon find out why.
Plans
for 2013?
Oh just you wait…
