When I first heard about the PUPA Lasting Colour Gel Polish, I was really excited and was in quite a hurry to try it out; luckily enough they sent me a bottle in 010 QUARTZ CRYSTAL a week later. According to their website the claim is:
“Get an extraordinary, professional result in just two strokes and without using the UV lamp. This revolutionary, gel-effect formula makes nails look super shiny, with a glassy effect and a super glossy finish that stays on perfectly for a long time. The volumizing, 3D effect texture makes nail surface full and smooth.”
So, I set about applying this polish…it says you are meant to use a specific base coat and a specific top coat but unfortunately the base coat is not available in Malta and the top coat was out of stock..so I had to use my usual ones. I layered the gel polish over my base coat; I applied three coats as I felt it needed that much for the colour to be truly even. The brush is wide and thick which makes the application process quicker. I then layered my usual top coat over it.
Initial Result:
I loved the result, the polish has a lovely glassy effect that looks really similar to that of UV cured gel polishes, very very shiny. Check out the picture below:
After 1 Day:
Nails looked absolutely the same, perfectly shiny and no chips or sign of wear.
After 2 Days:
Still looking perfect.
After 3 Days:
Again still perfect.
After 4 Days:
Although the shininess was still there and the colour hadn’t faded, chips now started to appear and on more than one nail so that at this point I decided to remove the polish and apply another colour.
Summary:
6/10 is my score. Although I loved how the colour and shine didn’t fade, I was quite disappointed at the fact that chips appeared after only 4 days..I’ve applied ‘normal’ long lasting polish that lasted 6 days so I thought 4 was not that great and for me, with polish, that’s the most important thing.
It could be be that it needs to be used with it’s own top coat in order to really achieve that long lasting effect they claim it has – hopefully the top coat will soon be back in stock and I can review the polish again using it together with the topcoat.
