Brand Spotlight : Tao of Sophia

You might remember me mentioning how my blog has been added to the Blog and the City website which I think is ultra cool as I’m
representing Malta and the fashion industry. Well the ultra innovative and
stylish Sophia, the founder of Blog and the City has decided to start her own
blog TAO OF SOPHIA and she’s here to tell us all about it in an interview which she has
answered in her own words.
Check it out below
So, who is Sophia Molen?
I am a Dutch girl living in Amsterdam. Although I studied
Bio-Medical Sciences at the University of Amsterdam, I afterwards realized I
rather be a online entrepreneur with the main focus on fashion. So while still
living a sort of student life here, I am slowly trying to make a switch to
another world.
You are the founder of the super innovative fashion website
Blog and The City.. How did you came up with the concept and how did you put it
all into action?
Instead of studying for my school exams and learning about
biological stuff, which I honestly find very interesting, I used to refresh my
bloglovin account constantly and discover new fashion blogs. I kinda missed a
place where all the great fashion blogs were organized and set out clearly. So,
I thought it was a smart thing to found a website which such an overview. I
personally love cities and since fashion is connected to cities, I liked to
relate the fashion bloggers by the cities they are based in. I became obsessed
with this idea and managed to set up everything myself (from web design and
codering to communication with fashion bloggers) in just one month.

And.. Now you’ve started your own blog as well; TAO OF SOPHIA… Do you feel this has something more or different to offer to the
public than Blog and The City ?
Even though I still have to spent a lot of time on Blog and
The City, it isn’t creative work anymore. Now I have my personal blog, I have a
place where I constantly can express my creativity and other interests like
photography and philosophy.
You must know a thing or two about fashion blogs… What do
you think sets a successful fashion blog apart from an unsuccessful one?
The one thing I keep telling bloggers who are asking me for
tips is to keep improving their photography skills. Photography is really
important in fashion blogging nowadays, because it has became more accessible
for all of us. Due to cheaper, better and easier-to-use cameras and a lot of
tutorials on the internet. I guess a blogger with bad quality photos will not
make it to the highest. But of course other factors like a strong personal
style, clear blog design and frequent updates are important as well.
You’re obviously into fashion.. How would you describe your
style ?
I like to describe my style as “rock bohemian”. I’m not sure
it defines my style correctly, but I obviously like some coolness. I don’t
feel comfortable in a girly outfit from top to toe (imagine: dress, heels,
flowers, a lot of colors).
Which fashion trend are you hating most this summer ?
I’m not hating certain trends, because I like to see that
other persons like to wear specific trends which I wouldn’t wear myself. But to
name some things I wouldn’t wear: retro or overdone sunglasses and animal eared
hats (so glad bloggers aren’t wearing them anymore.. okay I have to admit, I
hate them a little).
What are you looking forward to wear most this coming Autumn?
I’m looking forward to buy a super long trend coat, which we
are seeing for a while on the blogs now. And have you seen Olsen’s collection
for BikBok yet?! I totally fell in love with all the cool pieces of clothes
they designed!

Any other exciting projects planned for 2013?
I’m the kind of person who always have new and innovative
ideas in her head. When I have a great one, I will implement it instantly if
possible. So, if I might have a new project, you will find out soon enough haha!

Be sure to check out her blog at TAO OF SOPHIA
