On the second day of Milan fashion week, my highlight was without a doubt, reporting backstage at Moschino with MAC Cosmetics. Tom Pecheux was the lead makeup artist for the night and he explained how he had been asked to recreate his look from the 90s – the smokey eye with a bit of gloss.
Look Details
The main product of the night was the fluidline in the blacktrack colour – this product has actually been a favourite mine for over ten years – I use it as an eyeliner. Tom used it as base over the entire eyelid from which to create the smokey eye look. The eye gloss was layered over the lid and the corner of the eyes – the idea is that the blacktrack would stop the gloss from running. Feline was then used over the waterline and lots of naughty lash mascara was used on both the top and bottom lashes.
As regards the skin base, face and body foundation was used along with studio concealer for where it was needed. The Pro mixing medium was then applied over the cheekbones and a dark shade of mineralize skinfinish was used as bronzer. Eyebrows were styled according to what looked best on the model.
As regards the lips, they were left nude using erase balm and lip mix pressed into the lips using fingers to apply.
During the interview Tom Pecheux said that the smokey eye remains one of many women’s favourites looks, especially because it makes a woman feel sexy. He said that it is quite a simple look and there is nothing overly complicated, however, the perfect smokey eye takes a while to create and require patience and perfectly blended layers. He also emphasised the huge part good skin plays, good skin doesn’t need much coverage but dry skin or problem skin requires more expertise and attention.
He sums up the Moschino woman as a joyful person, someone who has fun.

As regards the clothes, Moschino can always be expected to be quite unique. The theme was the Bonfire of the Vanities, the story of an Italian rebellion when catholic worshippers burnt thousands of objects which they condemned as representing sin. The looks depicted women wearing ‘burnt’ gowns, mobile phone covers with ‘Moschino cigarettes’, t-shirts with ‘fashion kills’ logos.
