Readers of this blog should by now be familiar with my fondness for Elisabetta Franchi. Ever since I discovered this designer stocked at Rebelli in Malta, I’ve been quite literally – obsessed. When the invitation to the show arrived I was quite excited and set about finding the perfect outfit to wear.
This kimono-style dress is from the Winter 15/16 collection and is Japanese-inspired. It feels luxuriously silky and an absolute pleasure to wear.
The show itself was great fun – a sort of parade which was actually intended to be a protest against circuses and general exploitation of animals. Elisabetta Franchi is actually a designer quite renowned for her love towards animals. Her clothes only use animal-free eco-friendly furs and feathers and artificial leathers. The show resembled a parade in an American city and in fact, red and blue was a very prominent colour combination. The clothes are still very womanly and powerful, there’s a disco/ David Bowie influence and definitely a huge 80s vibe – loved the padded shoulders on one of the blazers. There were also a few pieces using her now trademark laces details that I love.
The collection was actually split into different sections starting with the more conventional, basics in monochrome and nude options and ending in a circus-related finale parade that featured the more show-stopping items and the stunning fitted jackets with fringing details.
A very strong collection that I felt was a bit more varied than her previous ones and showed more versatility.
