Travel : Artistic Luxury in London

There’s something about a stylish boutique hotel that makes me happy, that gives flight to my creative imagination. The Ampersand Hotel in London where I stayed over London Fashion Week is one such place.
I remember a time when I younger that my motto as regards travel accommodation was – it’s just the place where I will sleep as little as possible. My drive to experience every corner the place in question had to offer always led to me thinking that as little money as possible should be spent on accommodation. Maybe I’m growing older, maybe it was a case of “you don’t miss what you haven’t experienced” but nowadays, I can’t bear the thought of ‘ugly’ accommodation. It doesn’t necessarily have to cost the earth but I do crave some sort of style and charm to be found in that place I return to at night.

Something quite exciting was the food – the minibar was complimentary and I also found a box of petit fours waiting for me.  Breakfast was delicious and you can even opt to have in brought to your room. I also really enjoyed the tea salon – it is as quintessential British as they come. I even had the lovely Sarah over from mycitymylondon join me after the Burberry show.
The theme is a botanical one at The Ampersand, beautiful bird and feather sketches run all over the typical British building which is in South Kensington close to Harrods, V&A museum and Kensington Gardens. There are bird and feather sketches in the rooms, a book about birds was also placed in my room and installations also decorate the corridors and halls. I must admit, though, the bathroom was probably my favourite room – a tv on top of the bath, toiletries from Miller and Harris and a rubber duck to accompany you. The perfect way to end a tiring day at London Fashion Week.
