Malta Fashion Awards 2016 – Fashion Stylist Winner

And that’s the 2016 edition of the Malta Fashion Week & Awards done and dusted. I won the Fashion Stylist Award for the third time – which is absolutely amazing. I am so happy and over the moon. Although this also means I can never get nominated or win this award again, then again, this is probably a good thing considering how fast my heart was beating last night.

There are a bunch of people I need to thank in this post. When I look back at when I started working in this industry and who supported and pushed me, many, many people come to mind but a few stick out. Adrian Mizzi – first of all for creating this event and supporting the industry – without him  fashion week as we know it wouldn’t be here – but also for always giving me advice and pushing me, Elaine Galea who is just one of the sweetest people alive and has always been there to listen to me, Marisa Grima who took me under her wing and was my mentor from day 1 and of course the hubby Kurt Paris who listens to all my musings, holds me when I’m down and hugs me when I need it.
The job of a stylist is not as easy as many people seem to think. It is not glamorous and overflowing with beautiful clothes and moments. It is tiring and filled with endless opportunities to carry things, clean things and get very hot and sweaty. If coordination and direction is also required, well then, there are also endless opportunities to swear and hassle. A lot of people underestimate the work that goes on behind the scenes at photoshoots and fashion shows.
I guess I should now talk about what I wore. Honesty time – I did not buy this dress for the fashion awards. I bought it online a few moths ago for a party but it arrived too late and no event came along which deserved it so it sat in my wardrobe for a few months, waiting for the award night. I kept worrying that it wouldn’t fit – I only got the courage to try it on 2 weeks ago. Soooo when I was dress-sorted, I stopped worrying about the rest of it until yesterday morning, the morning of the event. At which time of course, panic set in, especially when the wonderfully organised hubby told me he needed a jacket and of course I had to go buy it with him.
Anyway, after a few hours backstage in which I worked, had my dark circles covered and my messy hair sorted out, I was good and ready to go. I really enjoyed the event, this was probably the best-organised edition ever and I only needed to work backstage part of the time – got to keep my heels on for once.
So there we have it and now I guess we can see it as if it’s almost as though it’s new year’s day and are starting a brand new fashion year. Cheer to you all.
