Just when you’ve almost recovered from Christmas and New Year festivities and in case, these are closely followed by my birthday every year, along comes Valentine’s Day. I generally have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day, when I was younger I loved it but as time passed I started to see the whole thing as one big commercial day that had lost the romantic spark. Over the past few years though I’ve realised that I’ve started to sense it approaching from a few weeks before, perhaps not fully focusing on it but forever conscious that it’s almost here. I’ve also noticed that there’s more attention to detail being paid all round, it’s still commercial (then again what isn’t nowadays?) but now there’s something nice being sold, restaurants are creating romantic atmospheres, shops selling products that truly fit into the notion of a romantic gift.
I’m somewhat of a shopaholic, I love beauty and fashion and I use the excuse ‘I work hard, I deserve it’ way too often. Notwithstanding, there are some items that I rarely if ever gift myself, purely because I see them as somewhat of an indulgence. These are those items that ‘in my head’ fall into the gift category. Expensive jewellery is one such item, flower bouquets are another and perfume is another. I will admit, that it is somewhat of a silly notion, a part of me rebels against the notion of a lady waiting for a man or anyone to buy her that expensive jewellery gift or new bottle of perfume.
However, I will say that if a gift is to be bought this Valentine’s, for your loved one, your best friend, to wear on the night or simply as a gift to yourself, a new powerful perfume is a definite strong option. La Femme Prada remains one of my favourites, it is a fragrance designed to take the wearer on a voyage through place, memory and time, a sensual meeting point, the male counterpart is equally intense, evoking strong emotions and feelings. This is a fragrance for a grown-up woman, no children allowed.
