All hail the return of the peplum from the 1940s !! Peplum means a flared ruffle or shape flaring out from the waistline, as in the pic below:
SS 12 -Alexander Wang |
This shape is chic and original and very flattering for a variety of different figures. The shape can be found on dress, tops, jackets and skirts. Done well, the result is truly sexy.
Peplums can be either fitted or flared. Flared give the illusion of larger hips whilst fitted peplums can tighten stomachs and cinch in waists.
Jennifer Anniston – Fitted peplum |
Emma Stone – flared peplum |
Although some people might think it would make their hips look bigger, fitted peplums can actually draw attention away from the hips. For skinny women, wishing to add curves, than the flared peplum trend is spot on, instantly give the appearance of hips and a sexy hourglass figure.
Fitted peplums are great for hourglass and pearshaped body shapes whilst flared peplums are great for column, apples and inverted triangle body shapes. Learn your body shape at Learning Your Body Fruit Shape
