When the news broke that the disgraced designer John Galliano was invited to collaborate with him in his studio for a three-week stint, Oscar de la Renta’s Fall 2013 runway show turned into arguably the most hyped up show of all the shows in all the fashion weeks this season.
The fashion world loves Galliano and the fashion world was eager to see what magic would bring to the show but a lot of questions were raised – would his influence make a difference? Oscar de la Renta is already one of the most polished great designers of our generation so does he actually need Galliano ?? And after this where would Galliano go? Would he stay ? These and many more were the questions on everyone’s mind as they waited for the show to unveil…
However, the show did not disappoint and it seems as though the audience was treated to 15 minutes of magic…wish I had been there…
Check out some photos of the collection below:
Watch the whole show here :
There were lots of Galliano influences: the slicked hair, the shawl jackets cinched at the waist, the hats and hoods, the heavy makeup…. all that reminds us of Galliano’s elaborate, sometimes eccentric finishing touches.
However fundamentally the beautiful, intricate designs remain Oscar de la Renta’s, with both exquisite polishing and practical design elements seen on each piece, making them suitable both for us more common folk as well as a New York heiress.
