I’ve made no secret of the fact that I love polka dots and I love the fact that the pattern is so hip and in trend at the moment. This way I can avoid looking like a woman acting like a child or Minnie Mouse when I decide to wear a head-to-toe dot outfit.
It is important to remember your body type when wearing the dotted pattern. Remember that this pattern is very ‘attention grabbing’ so don’t wear polka dot jeans if you don’t want to draw attention to your legs (e.g. if you are pear shaped).
On the other hand, if you are apple shaped, then polka dot trousers will work in your favour by drawing attention away from your upper body. Also, try to keep the sizes of the dots proportional to your body e.g. a petite person might look slightly ridiculous wearing an extra-large dotted sweater.
If you are slightly overweight, you might want to avoid wearing really large dots completely and opt for smaller dots, if you are a fan of the larger dots then you can opt instead for accents, such as a shirt collar, or a simple necktie or even a bag or pair of shoes.
If you feel very confident and love your body then why not take a risk and opt for head-to-toe polka dot ? This will work best if you use either different colours or different styles of dot patterns, e.g different sizes of dots.
The Miu Miu show yesterday, featured so many dots everywhere, that I woke up with dots on my mind and still thinking about it this morning – this calls for a spot of shopping me thinks ….
