Last weekend I spent two nights at the Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour. The Macina is a historical fortress built in the 16th century, a Maltese landmark. The word Maċina is derived from the word macchina, a large sheer crane structure which was used to hoist and lower the masts and other cargo. This stopped being used in 1864.
The hotel is a luxury hotel offering stunning views and a minimalist decor which perfectly complements the historic elements which have been retained in different unique ways across the 21 different suites.
The hotel is situated in Senglea, one of the more interesting areas of Malta, seeped with history and of course beautiful views. It is also a stone throw away from Valletta, a ferry away to be exact. The hotel offers breakfast, a fine dining a la carte restaurant, a rooftop pool and room service.
The Room
I was lucky enough to have a corner suite which meant my very own private terrace. My suite consisted of a spacious living area, a modern bathroom, both rooms had lots of natural light,
The Bedroom
I loved the stylish decor in the bedroom, the free standing mirror, the gorgeous armchair and the touch of mustard. And again, the views. I must mention the super comfortable bed too, I slept like a baby, so warm and cosy.
The Terrace
Views of the harbour on one side, a historical fortress on the other side – when the sun is shining, there is simply no better place to wile away a few hours. The Area
The rooms are accessed from a corridor which leads off from a glass lift which climbs up the fortress.
The rooftop pool…
Breakfast is served as both a la carte and a buffet, the a la carte menu offers some great options such as Parmesan omelettes and smoked salmon french toast. I also had an amazing dinner which I have gone into more detail about here.
It truly was a wonderful weekend and I highly recommend Cugó Gran Macina Grand Harbour – maybe for Valentine’s Day ?
